Family History Project

Dear Forbush and Jacobson clan,

Welcome to my family history blog! Recently I have enrolled in a family history and genealogy class at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT; the concepts taught to me in this class have impressed upon me a desire to share with you the things I have learned. Additionally, I would like to share with you the discoveries I make as I do my family history work for our ancestors.

The first entry I would like to share with you, that is still pending, is a transcript of an oral interview I conducted with Dad (Wade Forbush, son of Robert Forbush and Constance Lillian Peterson). In his oral interview, I ask him questions about everything--outlining his childhood, mission, college and marriage years, all the way up until now (which would be Thanksgiving 2010). I went home this last Thanksgiving and discussed with him the possibility of recording his history. Of course, knowing Dad, he was really excited on the inside for me to do it. This oral interview was a very special moment in my life that I now have the opportunity to share with my siblings because my father is a very private man. Any questions I have asked him in the past about his past has not been too elaborated on. He has just shared with me the basics of what he remembers. From what I have learned, he has not led the easiest life, but he has grown up to be a very loving and generous man. I am so grateful he has agreed to do this with me. It is the start of an effort to record his life in a book. He has now reached the half-way mark of life and who knows how long we last here in this life! I want my posterity to know as much about their forefathers as I can possibly record. This might include pictures, journal records, land and probate records, censuses, or anything else having a connection to our ancestors. I believe it is so important that we turn our hearts to our fathers as they have already turned their hearts to us in hopes that we form a special connection with them.

My goal very soon is to make this blog public to only family members so they can post things on this blog as well that they find about family history. You may post anything you find about the family because it will be an enriching experience to expand everyone's knowledge about their ancestors. Please PLEASE share the things you have already found  and please include SPECIFIC sources to so others can go and find the same things. If there is anything I have learned about the things you find, it is to document the sources. My parents have given me information about our ancestors and I have not been able to go back and find the things they discovered due to incompleted documentation.

I look forward to learning together with you as we share our heritage and legacy.

With much love, your relative,
Melanie Marie Forbush, daughter of Wade Forbush and Jill (Jacobson) Musgrove

P.S. I will be posting the transcript of my Dad on the next post.
